DAVID ANDERSON Age: 49 Gender: Male Nicknames: Anderson is his typical name among friends. Sexuality: Heterosexual Race: Human Occupation: Admiral Faction or allegiance: Systems Alliance Moral alignment: Paragon
APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 6'2" WEIGHT: 210 lbs EYE COLOR: Brown HAIR COLOR: Black and balding OTHER: Multiple scars, but none of note.
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: David Anderson has had a lot of crap thrown his way in his life, from a nasty divorce, to being blamed for a disastrous mission that led to him missing a chance at becoming a spectre, to having his ship taken from him, to...well, one gets the point. Never once would anyone think that Anderson's been through such things, though, unless they grilled him for the information. Anderson still carries himself with shoulders high and his mind focused on the future rather than the past. Though he's always had military discipline and has never been an overly cheery person, Anderson nonetheless has a manner about him that can be comforting or reassuring, a valuable asset for a military commander. Anderson has a guiding hand and firm but usually-friendly method in dealing with life. He's got patience to outlast Sisyphus, resulting from a life with more than a few bumps in the road.
Anderson is an undoubtedly loyal friend, though he can be an equally relentless enemy. He casts a typically kind sort of fatherly figure over the men he commands, as he's a lot less strict with formality and regulation than many admirals (possibly because Saren's strict, unfeeling nature made him decide to be the exact opposite). He still expects people to act like they have some damn sense every now and then, but overall he can tolerate pretty much anything, even a protege who bends some longstanding galactic rules for the greater good. Anderson even tries to get along with his enemies sometimes, even if he's busily shooting at them as he does so. Still, threaten Anderson or someone he calls a close friend - like Kahlee Sanders - and one has quite an opponent on their hands, one who will rarely, if ever, allow himself to quit. So it's good to be a friend to Anderson, and his accommodating and thoughtful nature has earned him many a one over time...as well as "enemies" like Udina, who think his stubbornness about helping those loyal to him are his greatest downfall.
Anderson has an absolute stick-straight morality. He does believe in skimming over the rules at times, but never at the expense of other people's wellbeing. He just slaps the rules aside when they get to be filled with needless bullshit. Anderson is genuinely all about dealing with both the good and bad and putting the good back into things when he can. He knows he's a soldier and not everything about war or the military will ever be pretty, but he's never understood the motivation of people like Saren, who can take their status as the one holding the gun and use it for their own gain or some separate agenda. Anderson feels as if he's a servant of the people, and as most people are good save for the ones he has to shoot at, he should strive to be "good" himself.
HISTORY History: Born and raised in London, England, David Anderson's early life has often played second fiddle to his military career. It's important to know, though, that while Anderson was raised by a relatively well-off family, he was always pushed towards establishing his own work ethic as opposed to gaining the assistance that his parents could surely grant him. They encouraged his hard work in school and involvement in the youth activities that interested him - he played several sports and was also momentarily involved in student government, though he found he hated the idea of it sometime later. His resulting high grades saw him earn scholarship offers from several schools, but he opted for one of the two military academies that were offering to him, and quickly became one of their most recommended trainees and eventually, graduates.
Much to his great surprise, he would be immediately called to be congratulated by the human hero Jon Grissom and, upon his arrival, realize that he would be tasked with helping investigate the appearance of aliens near a mass relay - a great danger, since humans had only recently discovered the relay and learned from the Prothean ruins on Mars how to use the relay. Anderson would later learn that his involvement in the mission would be his training for the newly created N7 special forces program, and Anderson easily achieved the rank during his service in what would be later known as the First Contact War with the turians.
Soon after the war, Anderson would be introduced to the woman who would become his wife sometime later, Cynthia Haskins, and purchase his own apartment on the Citadel once humans had established an embassy. Unfortunately for Anderson, his prestigious rise through the military ranks would see him rarely at home after his marriage. It would be extremely strained and near the point of divorce by the time he achieved the rank of lieutenant after the war and was assigned to the SSV Hastings as its executive officer. After several months of service but little activity, he received word from his wife that she was going to process a divorce for the both of them. Not long after, the Hastings responded to a distress signal from a System Alliance research station on Sidon. Anderson would stumble across the damnable truth that one of the station's own had betrayed them. He would return to the Citadel and, after receiving word about his wife, report to the human ambassador about his findings.
From there, he would become entangled in a considerable conspiracy. Anderson would learn that the base was dabbling in illegal AI research and that the lone member of the research team that was missing from the base during the attack, Kahlee Sanders, was actually Jon Grissom's daughter. Anderson keeps Grissom's home under surveillance to keep an eye out for Sanders at the ambassador's wish.
A krogan mercenary, Skarr, attacked the home and nearly killed Anderson, Grissom, and Sanders, whom her father had been hiding, until a turian spectre named Saren Arterius arrived and handled the situation. Though they avoided the problem about the AI research, Anderson and Sanders investigated the manufacturing company that had been supplying her project leader, finding it destroyed. Saren would find out about the illegal research and lead Sandres to admitting that the project leader, Dr. Shu Qian, was responsible for the disaster at Sidon. Soon after the proof was handed over to the Alliance, Skarr captured Sanders, and the human ambassador recommended Anderson accompany Saren on the rescue mission to be assessed as a potential spectre.
The rescue mission proved a disaster, with Saren blowing the eezo refinery where Sanders was being held to hell. Anderson rescued Sanders, however. Saren would ensure that Anderson took the blame for the death of the innocents at the refinery, and Anderson would not receive spectre status. He would lose twice, as Sanders, whom he had developed feelings for, would be transferred to a classified unit.
And so Anderson's life would go on. He took some shore leave to rest his mind before returning and rededicating himself to his military work. The distinguished service that he turned in during these quieter years in the galaxy saw him achieving the rank of captain, and earning the right to put a new prototype frigate, the Normandy, through its paces. Allowed to pick his crew from among the Alliance's finest available bodies, Anderson assembled a team headlined by another N7 graduate, John Shepard, who would serve as his executive officer.
The teem would be needed, given that the first mission was a covert investigation of a colony known as Eden Prime and a turian spectre, Nihlus, would be joining them to evaluate Shepard for spectre status at Anderson and the human ambassador's request. The situation turned difficult, however, and they walked into a geth attack. Shepard would be knocked unconscious by the prothean beacon that they were meant to recover, and Saren would once again come into Anderson's life. He attempted to help Shepard find his proof against the turian specture, but ultimately, Ambassador Udina asked him off the investigation. Anderson opted to give the Normandy command to Shepard.
Anderson, still on the Citadel, also found that the plan for the Council and Udina was to have the Normandy grounded to prevent Shepard from trying to make the trip to Ilos. Anderson met with Shepard and did his part in seeing the Normandy removed from its C-Sec instigated lock. Later, once the attack had started, Anderson led a rescue team to support Shepard after Saren's death. Sovereign was defeated, and Anderson, at Shepard's push, became the first human councilor. Anderson didn't want the spot, but he accepted it, wanting to help with Shepard's desires to cease the potential Reaper threat that had been previewed by Sovereign. He also found his failure rectified in Shepard's success as a spectre.
Then, Shepard's successes came crashing down with his death. Anderson reluctantly remained the human councilor after the commander's death, and was forced to turn his attention to the new threat affecting human colonies, the Collectors. Anderson promoted and dispatched both Ashley Williams and a hero of a fight with the Collectors, James Vega, to investigate the Collectors and the rumors about Commander Shepard's revival at the hands of Cerberus. The rumors proved to be true, and Anderson managed to get a message to Shepard to meet him and the Council on the Citadel. Though not trusting Cerberus motives, Anderson managed to see Shepard's spectre status reinstated by the Council and offered him support if needed. Anderson would end up sitting back, though, as the Collectors were defeated by Cerberus forces.
Only a short time after hearing that the Collectors had been defeated, Anderson heard from Kahlee Sanders again and decided to assist her in recovering a Cerberus captive, Paul Grayson. Gaining the support of the turian councilor to fight back against expanding Cerberus actions, Anderson makes his last act to recommend a new spectre candidate and give turian access to attacks on several military bases before turning the council position over to Udina.
Anderson resumed military service in joining Sanders in tracking down the base where the Reaper-transformed Grayson was being held. A mess involving Aria T'Loak's mercenary forces led to Anderson being captured by the mercenaries, triggering Grayson's escape, and eventually being saved by Kai Leng, a Cerberus operative, whom he subsequently attempted to capture. Showing that his time as councilor had made him no worse for wear, Anderson helped board Grissom Academy, where Grayson had fled, and fought with the Reaper creation almost to the death before defeating him. Unfortunately, Kai Leng escaped due to Anderson's injuries, and aside from Grayson's death, the only victory Anderson gained was a rekindled relationship with Sanders. The council again refused to listen to the proof that Grayson was a Reaper creation.
He received word that Shepard had, to slow the Reapers, gone to much greater lengths and blown a mass relay in batarian space to hell. Having to bring in Shepard for his crimes, the Systems Alliance allowed Anderson to handle the human hero's incarceration. Anderson again contacted James Vega and recruited him to serve as Shepard's personal guard. There was nothing to do after, Anderson knew, but wait for the Reapers.
They would come with a vengeance, with Anderson rushing to Vancouver to convince the defense council to release Shepard and listen to his advice on how to fight the Reapers. However, Anderson was too late. The Reapers attacked and knocked out essentially the entire base, forcing the two of them to flee until the Normandy arrived to whisk them away. Anderson initially wished to stay behind, but ultimately deciding that if the survivors were to have any chance, they needed supplies that were not available on earth, Anderson agreed to leave with Shepard until he could acquire his own ship from Admiral Hackett's fleets and move to quickly assemble forces to return to earth.
