KASUMI GOTO Age: 27 Gender: Female Nicknames: Not many even know her real name. Sexuality: Keijisexual Race: Human Occupation: Master thief Faction or allegiance: Herself...and at times Shepard, such as now when she's helping assist with the Crucible project. She may be stealing some things from the Alliance in the meantime however. Moral alignment: Neutral
APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 5'2 WEIGHT: 115 EYE COLOR: Brown HAIR COLOR: Black OTHER: None
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Perhaps the best word to describe Kasumi is mischievous. While her intentions are never usually out to get someone for the sake of just that, Kasumi does have a deep love for creating trouble to those around her. While she won't harm any needlessly, she enjoys pranks and even a little bit of chaos. Part of her mischief, however, is that she has an undying desire to take various things from others. While others steal to survive or to get power, Kasumi does it simply because she loves it...and the credits is just a perk that comes along with that.
That being said, while Kasumi is confident in her abilities, she never oversteps her boundaries for haughtiness. After all, no use in being proud and dead. While she claims to be the best thief out there, she also keeps a very low profile and never lets her pride or ego overstep her desire for security in being able to disappear. Still, Kasumi is confident in her own skills and is often challenging herself in different ways. She desires to be the best, and she works at it constantly.
Her occupation has made her a very close observer in detail. While Kasumi never hesitates with a snarky word or a comment if it can be done, her eyes are skilled at picking up subtle things, and she can be an observer just as easily as she can join in a conversation. Her attention to small detail helps her be insightful when it comes to others, and she often picks up on things that other people pass over or never notice. She sees and hears everything.
Kasumi doesn't get close to many people, but she can also love with her entire being. Her lover, Keiji, sparked such loyalty and adoration from her that she was cut very deeply, to the point of refusing to let him - even a memory of him - go. So deeply was she angered and hurt by Keiji's death, she helped kill the man that killed him, and would do it again.
HISTORY History: Despite her Japanese roots, Kasumi wasn't raised on earth. Her parents were part of the flocking to Elysium before they were married, and met each other there. Kasumi was born and in her early years, she was raised there. Her days were mostly carefree, but even as a young child she seemed to have a desire for things. It was small back then, pens and trinkets...her parents never knew, and nobody could seem to point a finger at her. Her idylic life changed when she was but a girl of seven years old. Batarian pirates killed her family in a skirmish and kidnapped her to sell. A scared little girl, Kasumi still managed to escape first hand custody and spent the next few days dodging and hiding from the pirates aboard the ship. Somehow she managed to escape detection (even while they searched for her) until an alliance vessel came to fight and free the cargo and prisoners that the batarians had been holding. Kasumi was among those found.
She was then taken to the Citadel to live with her only remaining relative - her grandmother. Kasumi still has fond memories of her grandmother, though they were far from rich and her grandmother often struggled to get by. Still, she did her best for her granddaughter, and even tried to spoil her. Ramen was a favorite of theirs, and they often watched videos while eating ramen meals. Kasumi still craves it at times. Still, her desire for little things became a bigger obsession. Kasumi stole, not because she had to, but because she wanted to - and her grandmother never found out. Over the years she became better and better, and by the time her grandmother died, Kasumi was sixteen and quite adept at doing whatever she pleased. While she mourned her grandmothers passing, Kasumi took the opportunity to go abroad, to learn new things and steal even greater things. For years she did just that. In her early years as a thief, she would leave a red rose as a calling card, and it wasn't until later on when she met her later partner that she would realize how silly that was of her.
When she was merely twenty one, she was on Elysium for a heist, when she heard of a batarian slaver group kidnapping a girl that she had thought was especially cute. Memories of her own childhood and her like for this girl moved her to set up a fake I.D as a rep to get aboard the ship. Once on it, she smuggled the girl off and they flew away. The girl painted her Kasumi's favorite painting on the way home.
Many heists later, an odd collector hired her to steal a painting for him. Yet when she got there, the painting wasn't there! When she left, Kasumi saw it being hauled off by another thief. Seeing that, she chased him down, tackled him and took the painting. That was how her and her lover and partner met for the first time. Instead of giving the painting to the people that had hired them, they kept it for themselves. Kasumi started the life of a thief with a partner after that, and didn't miss being alone as much as she would have thought. Keiji would bring her back books while on heists over the years, and she has her own personal collection of novels that she enjoys.
One time Keiji dared her to steal an expensive piece. There was a big museum show on Illesium where earth pieces went on tour with very high security. She hacked the security, put a few guards to 'sleep' and replaced the piece with a worthless copy. They never realized what she had done. Yet when Keiji went on trial, they disappeared together. A man named Hock, however, killed Keiji and stole his graybox. Kasumi was devastated and spent much time planning on stealing his graybox back.
Desiring her assistance with Commander Shepard, Ceberus attempted to contact her. Figuring out who it was that did so, she trailed and contacted them, eventually agreeing to work with Shepard if he helps her retrieve Keiji's graybox. It's agreed, and later on while on the Normandy, Shepard does indeed help her track down Hock and infiltrate his estate by pretending to be guests at his party. They smuggle their armor and weapons in through a statue of Saren, and after making Shepard run around and obtain things like DNA to get into his personal safe, they get in and find Keiji's graybox. Then things get interesting, they had to fight their way out of the place, and eventually Kasumi shows off some daring moves to take down the shields of Hock's airship - thus allowing them to take the thing down and kill him. While Keiji instructed her to destroy it, Kasumi refuses to give up the only thing she still has of him, and keeps it against his will.
After surviving the mission against the collectors, Kasumi disappears - only to be approached by Shepard and asked to join the war effort. While not particularly interested in that, Kasumi agreed when Shepard peaked her interest on being able to steal things while working on the crucible project. Right now, she's using her skills to assist with that project...and stealing a few things on the side.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES MAJOR SKILLS:
- Master thief - Kasumi is the one of the best thieves in the business. Her ability in that regard makes it easy for her to slip past things, gives her light fingers and feet, and powerful abilities at her disposal. It's easy to see why she can steal anything she sets her mind on.
- Cloaking - Kasumi has the tech ability that allows her to cloak when she needs or wants to. This helps her sneak past systems, guards, or whoever she really wants to. It also assists her in her desire to get blackmail on basically anyone.
- Shadow strike - Using this power, Kasumi cloaks, appears behind her target and delivers a devastating sneak attack, then re-cloaks and returns to her previous location.
- Flashbang Grenade - It launches a disorienting, concussive charge that inflicts minor damage and incapacitates all nearby targets. Both delicate electronics and enemy nervous systems are temporarily disabled, causing weapon overheats, omni-tool jams, and difficulties in using biotic powers.
- Overload - It shuts down an enemy's shields, rendering them vulnerable to attack. Overload is typically used to take down shields or synthetics, doing twice as much damage to shields as it does to synthetics, but will also cause any unshielded enemies using flamethrowers to explode. Starting at rank 3, Overload will cause the weapons of most unprotected enemies to overheat, making them unable to fire for a brief period. It can also be used on explosive containers to make them detonate more violently for added damage.
- Infiltration - It's easy to see why Kasumi is a master at infiltration as well as extraction. Wherever she wants to go - or leave - she will, regardless if she needs to do so by physically moving and fighting, or by her skills with technology and electronics. Either way, if she needs to be somewhere, she'll find a way to be there.
- Stealth - Kasumi isn't seen or heard unless she wants to be. She can't hardly ever hear her own footsteps, let alone someone else hearing her. She's light on her feet and light with her hands, being places and seeing things the average person would only dream of being able to accomplish.
- Agility - Kasumi is as agile as she is stealthy. Flexibility has it's advantages, both in day to day life, as well as combat. She can use her hands and feet to fight as easily as she can her guns and technology. She can use this simply to get places others couldn't...by unconventional ways and routes.
WEAPONS, ARMOR AND BELONGINGS WEAPONS: - M-5 Phalanx - The M-5 Phalanx is the product of the Alliance's Offensive Handgun Project that developed a close-in weapon to be used on armored or shielded targets with no loss of stopping power in comparison to the soldier's assault rifle. The Phalanx enjoys a ballistics advantage even over most "hand cannons" and features an integral laser sight which is highly visible even in bright lighting conditions. Civilian variants are often purchased by colonists on planets that have particularly dangerous big game animals.
- M-4 Shuriken - A common but effective submachine gun. Fires three-round bursts, and can be pulsed for a higher rate of fire at the expense of accuracy. Very effective against shields and biotic barriers. As kinetic barriers have grown in popularity, so has the popularity of submachine guns. Manufactured by the Elkoss Combine, the Shuriken Machine Pistol has a reputation for being deadly and easy to use, but is weak against armor.
ARMOR: Her armor is primarily tech based, instead of traditional armor that's way too heavy for a thief to carry around and disguise herself with. She does, however, have a thin layer of armor plating neatly covering her body. BELONGINGS: - Omni-tool - Of course Kasumi has a grand omni-tool, one she stole from who knows where, and uses it often.
- Keiji's graybox - Unable to part with the only thing she has left of her lover and partner, Kasumi keeps the graybox that is highly sought after for the information inside. She keeps it safely hidden in...places.
- Trinkets - What doesn't Kasumi own? After years and years of thievery, Kasumi has more things hidden and stashed away than you can possibly imagine. Who knows when you might need something, after all? Her kleptomania gets the better of her almost constantly, and she can say with pride she has a pair of panties and boxers from every man and woman aboard the Normandy. Why keep them? Well, you never know when these things might come in handy.
- Blackmail on every possible person - Kasumi sees and hears almost everything that goes on around her. Because of that - and her inability to keep her hands off things, she seems to have information on just about everyone that she could use to her advantage.
