KEIJI OKUDA Age: 28 Gender: Male Nicknames: If anyone knows his name, he's doing his job wrong. Sexuality: Kasumisexual Race: Human Occupation: Former thief; currently, saboteur Faction or allegiance: Cerberus (against his will) Moral alignment: Neutral
APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 5'8" WEIGHT: 156 lbs EYE COLOR: Brown HAIR COLOR: Dark brown OTHER: He has a dragon tattoo on his back.
PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Keiji, before Cerberus got to him (and somewhere still, underneath the surface of their mind control), was a man extremely good at his job and confident in his skill, but prone to anxiety. Keiji had a smile to light up a room and the charm to, as a thief, serve as a skilled distraction when his partner Kasumi was performing her work elsewhere. Keiji had no issue swaggering into a highly guarded area to still a prize from some rich jerk who could afford to lose a few valuables. The confident thief on the surface, though, did not betray an anxious man underneath - Keiji's past left him as the type to be constantly watching over his shoulder and slow to trust. He tended to remain solitary at all times before meeting Kasumi when they were both younger, and after meeting her, she became his only friend. Keiji didn't mind at all, though.
As such, Keiji was always an actor in social and personal interactions aside from the times he was with Kasumi. If he was speaking to anyone aside from her, chances are he was putting on airs or making himself seem anything but a thief, playing numerous roles to keep him and Kasumi covered in case their game should be found out. Keiji was immensely protective of Kasumi and more than willing to put himself in the line of fire to keep her safe, though he did trust her to take care of herself. They were immensely inseparable, and Keiji would not have had his life take any different path away from their romance and partnership should he have had a choice.
Morally, Keiji is obviously not going to exactly be considered particularly heroic, given that he's been a thief and continually stole from the good, the bad, the ugly, and anyone in between. However, he was rather respectable for a thief and did not adhere to lethal force unless completely and totally necessary to protect himself or Kasumi. He tended to get his hands into things that got him into trouble, though, triggering the whole drama with his graybox and the information he found that eventually got him killed. While he tried to do the right thing, he couldn't always afford to due to desperation, making him pretty much dead center on the moral compass.
HISTORY History: Keiji had a love of tech from a young age after his birth in Japan, always one to tinker and play with anything electronic that he could get his hands on. Fortunately, earth was going through the transition to the Citadel age, so he had plenty to tinker with. His family was quite poor and he lived in cramped quarters, but he managed school despite his distractions with his own projects. He did not, however, have the scores to make it to a university in Japan, and as such joined the Systems Alliance military for training in the area he loved so much.
Keiji took to his education well and moved on to join the SA Intelligence Agency. He worked their computers for a time before trying his hand at field work to get the experience of it. They provided him the name Abraham Rumoi, and he worked several missions that involved the acquiring of high-value pieces of technology and cultural items of importance to humankind. He had success until one particular mission brought him in contact with a professional thief - Kasumi Goto, attempting to steal the painting that Keiji had been sent to acquire. He took a liking to her instantly, and they chose to grab the piece together. Keiji never went back to the Alliance Intelligence Agency after that day, and he and Kasumi kept the painting for themselves, starting a wave of crime. Keiji's graybox, an item only allowed to Alliance personnel, became their means to amazing heists, and the two quickly fell in love over the course of their heists.
One particular heist, though, went sour, and Keiji's graybox became filled with incriminating evidence against the Alliance that helped them both track him down and put him on trial for his crimes against them. Keiji, however, could not be incriminated by use of his graybox due to the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution - where he was tried - on self-incrimination, and despite their desires to punish him for his insubordinate behavior in working for the Intelligence Agency, they were forced to let him go. Keiji was set to return to Kasumi somehow, but an entrepreneur named Donovan Hock, who wished to see the Alliance at his mercy, hunted Keiji for his graybox. Keiji left Kasumi one last message, locked his graybox, and was seemingly killed.
But Cerberus got to Keiji's body before he had gone fully braindead, and in a procedure that was dwarfed by the Lazarus Project, they were able to revive him. Several months of attempting to interrogate him for his information on the Alliance produced nothing, and Cerberus, never prone to wasting human lives, decided to go with another plan for Keiji - turning him into one of their operatives. Due to his experience with tech and intelligence activities, they brainwashed him via a chip in his head and set him up as a saboteur to assault Alliance positions.
